After decades of dedicated service in education, counseling, and administration, Marcia Flocken, Director of Davis Adult Education, has announced her retirement effective January 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of opportunity, perseverance, and student success.
Throughout a career spanning more than 34 years, she supported learners across multiple pathways at Davis School District and Davis Adult Education, including English as a Second Language students, adult learners, and youth pursuing high school diplomas and GED credentials. Beginning as a counselor and instructor and later moving into administrative leadership, she became a steady advocate for learners at every stage of the educational journey.
As Director, she guided the growth and modernization of programs at Davis Adult Education, ensuring instruction remained accessible, supportive, and responsive to diverse student needs. ESL learners benefited from expanded language instruction and supportive integration services, while adult and youth learners received academic pathways designed to help them complete diplomas, earn GEDs, and prepare for workforce and postsecondary opportunities.
Under her leadership, hundreds of adult and youth learners earned Adult Education Diplomas and GEDs, while ESL students strengthened language proficiency, confidence, and access to education and employment. These outcomes opened doors to higher education, career advancement, and long-term personal achievement.
Colleagues describe her as a compassionate leader with an unwavering belief in every learner. She championed student-centered instruction, strengthened counseling and support services, and built strong partnerships with instructors, community organizations, and workforce agencies.
Many former students credit her with changing the trajectory of their lives. Adult and youth graduates often cite the academic support and encouragement they received as critical to completing school, while ESL learners point to the language instruction and welcoming environment that helped them navigate education, work, and daily life.
As she transitions into retirement, Davis Adult Education continues to build on the foundation she established—one rooted in dignity, access, and lifelong learning for ESL, adult, and youth learners alike.
The school community extends its deepest gratitude to Marcia Flocken for a career defined by service and impact. Her work will continue to be felt in every diploma earned, every GED completed, and every learner who gains the language, skills, and confidence needed to move forward.
